Is your note content stopping Evernote from syncing?

If you have your Evernote apps are not syncing and your have tried forcing sync then it is possible that actual note content is stopping the syncing process.

A user at the evernote discussion forums, "elephantintheroom", made a post outlining a bug where a sequence of characters in his note would prevent Evernote from updating. A list of characters identified by the user are below:
  • >>>
  • <<<
  • ***
If you have any of these characters, try remove them and give syncing another try. Are you still having issues? Have you found another solution? leave a reply below and I'll see how I can help.

  1. I tried searching my notes for >>> and ***
They both caused EN to crash immediately. Talk about Catch 22. I thought I could be clever and just search for >> which also causes an immediate crash. And so does searching for simply >
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

  2. Hello Richard, I am sorry to say I do not have any quick solutions to this off the top of my head. My understanding is that Evernote actually uses forms of HTML tags within their notes. I believe this is why you and others reach this "Catch22". Unfortunately because of these reasons, we are forced to manually remove the characters we are able to spot in the problem causing note.

  3. Does this issue still persist? And how did you look for those symbols? Manually? I have 1,200 notes and doesn't really have the time to go through them one by one to look for those symbols. Any suggestions?

    Syncing nightmare!
